Classes will be held in the premises of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies, in a stunning complex of buildings of the Venetian and Ottoman era. Accommodation will be provided by the House of Europe, hosted in a traditional refurbished building. Both classes and accommodation will be located in the scenic Old Town of Rethymno, allowing participants to explore also the post-classical history and culture of Crete and its Byzantine, Venetian, Ottoman and Modern Greek phases and elements.
How to get to Rethymno
By air
The island of Crete has two significant airports, Nikos Kazantzakis airport at Heraklion (Greek website here) and Daskalogiannis airport at Chania CHQ (Greek website here) that serve international and national flights. A third and smaller one is located at eastern side of Crete at Sitia.
By sea
The island is also served by ferries mainly from Pireus-Athens with ferry companies such as Minoan Lines, ANEK Lines and Blue Star Ferries.
The transportation from Chania and Heraklion to Rethymno can be done either by taxi, or by bus which is more economic. There are two bus companies that serve the transportation to Rethymno the one located in Chania KTEL Public bus service Chania – Rethymnon and the other in Heraklion KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi S.A.
